The PAS Model VWB3700 plastic vibration welder quickly bonds together large thermoplastic or composite parts using hydraulic pressure and the force of friction, with no curing or adhesives required. Vibration welding lends itself to large or irregularly shaped parts and difficult to weld resins that do not work well with other methods.
Vibration welders use heat generated when the surface of one part is rapidly vibrated against another. The heat begins to melt one or both surfaces, creating a viscous fluid. At the same time, pressure from a hydraulic lift table forces the fluid layers to intermix, followed by cooling and solidification into a joint.
The PAS VWB3700 vibration head is powered by a solid state 20 hp drive mounted on a massive flame cut steel bridge. The head is bolted to an upper tooling fixture firmly holding the top piece, vibrating it horizontally with amplitudes of 0.040 in. to 0.070 in. through the movement of a heavy duty steel spring. The rigid four rail table slide system secures the lower fixture while applying up to 5000 pounds of clamping force.
The welder works with a range of materials, including ABS, PVC, PMMA, polypropylene, PES, HDPE, PA, TEO, as well as fiber reinforced composites, such as wood plastic composite.
Standard features include an Allen-Bradley® SLC 5/03 controller with two available expansion slots and Allen-Bradley Panel View 600 full color touch screen display. The unit also includes an interior light, with exterior work light optional.
Tooling for vibration welding includes an upper “tuned” drive head and a lower fixture. Precision machining is critical to ensure a part is properly located and supported within the welder to maintain a balanced, linear motion. PAS provides custom engineered rugged components to ensure quality welds.
At PAS, we are committed to providing superior quality plastic assembly solutions, top notch service and technical support. Our personal attention to detail on the plastic assembly equipment we provide and the individual needs of our customers is what sets us apart.
Our complete line of plastic vibration welders offers end users the ability to run small, medium and large parts and applications. Contact us for quotes on custom frame sizes, lift tables, stroke lengths, etc., using standard vibration heads.
* Tool can in some instances overhang the back of the table by a modest amount. Consult PAS for more information.
** Custom lift table or custom frame can be quoted to allow for an uninterrupted “bucket” for greater depth.
